Programs
What are Programs?
They are scheduled
presentations and workshops that enhance the subject each grade is
studying. Each grade will experience multiple programs
throughout the school year. We also need volunteers to help!
Duties are: greeting the presenter(s),
occasionally helping them set up and/or assisting them during the
program (not very often), making sure they get paid (checks are kept
in the office), providing something to drink (also available in the
office), and offering to assist with "break down" when the
program is finished. Most of the presenters have been coming to
Matthew Thornton for years, and they are very appreciative of all
the help we provide. The volunteer can sit and enjoy the program if
he/she wishes.

Upcoming Programs
11/2 - Gordon Corbett, science
teacher extraordinaire
Grade 2 will learn all about
bones (How do you read bones? What can they tell you? What kinds of
bones are there?).
Gordon will present
"Transfer of Energy" to the 5th graders (Where does energy
come from? How does it get from one place to the other? He even does
"yo-yo physics"!), as well as a program on volcanoes (What
causes them and what can we do about them?).
11/14 - Plymouth State
University "TIGER" Program - "Let Your Star
Shine" incorporates live actors, puppets, theatre, movement and
music to encourage children to accept other, regardless of their
differences.
